Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a type of therapy that helps people to address challenging situations, thoughts and feelings. It looks at the relationship between these aspects of our lives and helps to make connections between them. This is usually explored through focusing on thoughts and behaviours and identifying tools and techniques to empower you to make changes.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a type of therapy that helps people heal from the physical and emotional distress that stems from negative life experiences. It holds the view that the mind can heal in the same way that the body heals from physical trauma. We allow the mind to heal difficulties by creating connections between memory networks, to process difficult/traumatic memories in a way that leads to freedom from the past.
Over the course of my practice, I have had the privilege of providing workshops on Depression and Anxiety within the NHS. In addition to this, I developed a group therapy programme which was funded by FORWARD UK.
This was aimed at women from BAME backgrounds who have experienced forms of Gender Based Violence (GBV).
I am available to provide workshops on topics related to my specialist interest and general mental wellbeing. I am also interested in work alongside non-profit organisations who would benefit from this service also.
Unsure what to do next? I offer a free 15 minute call via telephone or online on limited days across the week. This will involve us discussing your current difficulties to consider the most helpful approach moving forward. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions and consider whether you would like to begin therapy.
Sessions are 50 minutes in duration and can be held either face to face or via an online video platform. I usually offer between 12–20 weekly sessions; Although, I am happy to offer more if requested.
Typically, the first 1-3 sessions involve an assessment of your current difficulties and background. Once we have a shared understanding, we consider a focus for our sessions that are reflective of your goals. Alongside weekly sessions, you will be required to complete tasks in between sessions to practice tools that have been introduced. This contributes to further learning and progress.
Sessions are 90 minutes in duration and preferably held weekly. These can be face-to-face or via a video chat platform. There are no specific limits to sessions offered, as this is typically tailored to your needs and experiences. Following our assessment session, I will provide a suggested number of sessions, considering your past history and extent of difficulties experienced.
The first phase of EMDR involve an assessment of your difficulties and background (2-4 sessions). I will also provide fu information on the nature of EMDR and how it works. Following sessions will introduce tools to help you manage distress. The second phase of EMDR (4-16 sessions) involves “reprocessing” traumatic memories. These sessions are longer to allow time to debrief and manage any feelings/distress that arise. In this therapy, there are no in-between session tasks or 'homework'.
